Located in Kunshan, a Chinese city renowned for Taiwanese manufacturing industries, the Aurotek Technology factory challenges the traditional stereotype of non-environmental manufacturing. Inspired by the client's commitment to energy-saving sun-shading blinds, Peng Architects used local materials such as concrete hollow bricks and glass to create an exterior that is both economically and environmentally friendly. This unique approach sets the factory apart from its counterparts and establishes it as a model for green buildings.
The 10344-square-meter building adheres to the three-star standard of Chinese Green Building, following the principles of energy-saving and carbon reduction. The design incorporates hollowed-out building skins and buoyant ventilation windows, maximizing natural lighting and promoting natural wind convection. Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) technology was employed to measure ventilation flow and simulate the indoor thermal environment, ensuring optimal temperature and humidity throughout the building.
One of the standout features of the factory is the creation of a green atrium in the workshop and office areas. This innovative design element helps regulate the microclimate and enhances the overall working environment. Additionally, the first-floor glass windows in the southeast corner of the building feature Aurotek Technology's own electric external sunshade blinds, allowing visitors to experience the company's products firsthand.
Completed in April in Kunshan, Jiangsu, China, the Aurotek Technology factory represents a successful collaboration between Peng Architects and the client. By prioritizing environmental protection and sustainability, the project has achieved the highest level of certification in China's green building evaluation standards.
This exceptional design has been recognized with the prestigious Bronze A' Design Award in the Architecture, Building, and Structure Design category in 2021. The award acknowledges the factory's outstanding creativity, resourcefulness, and incorporation of best practices in art, science, design, and technology. It is a testament to the architects' technical and creative skills and their contribution to improving the quality of life.
